Anything but Common

Last Thursday we launched our new Thursday Night program called "The Common".  We had a great time and there was a great energy all night.  The night is designed to connect students to other students and staff throughout the Jr. High and Sr. High ministries.

Our night kicks off at 6:30 with a Jr. High hour till 7:30.  The Jr. High time consists of a group game, lesson time, and small groups.  From 7:30-8:00 we have a combined time for both Jr. High and Sr. High students to hang out, connect, eat some food, and play games.  The Sr. High hour goes from 8:00-9:00 and consists of a game time and small groups for prayer.

We appreciate the prayers and support as we develop programs that will help align this ministry with God's will for the students.  We are always looking for additional help with providing food and drinks, and serving on staff.  Let us know if you'd like to be involved!

More than Dodgeball

Saturday Night Dodgeball...

The first Saturday of each month during the school year we'll be having a dodgeball night for our Sr. High students.  We praying that God will use this night to reach unchurched/unsaved students in Solano county and connect them with Crossroads Youth Ministry.  Through building relationships in a welcoming environment we're hoping to have the opportunity to share our faith and our church with students who don't know Him.

We appreciate all your prayers and support for these special nights.  Last month we had a group of unchurched students show up that were invited by a Crossroads student and they had a great time.  I ran into them at Merriment on Main and before I could ask if they were joining us again they told me they were looking forward to dodgeball this Saturday!  As I got to talk with them more while waiting in line, I was able to share about our upcoming Winter Retreat and was asked by one of the students what they needed to do to go.

We all have heard stories about how one invite or one event triggered a series of decisions that led to being introduced to Christ and I pray that there will be many stories that start with a something as fun as playing dodgeball.

The Gospel of Mark

I asked Maddy Brown to share about what she's been learning in the Jr. High...

"We are learning about the gospel of Mark in church.  So I've been starting to read it before I go to bed every night and it has been really good for me. I'm not one who reads the bible avidly so this is great progress for me. I love how it has just captured me in the stories that are told.
A week ago my brother walked into my room and asked what I was doing and I said I was reading Mark.  My brother looked interested so I asked him if he wanted me to read to him, he said he would like that so now I'm reading Mark to my little brother as well.
It feels so good to be reading my bible (and have it be interesting) and teach my brother more about it at the same time.  I can't wait to see what the Gospel Mark will talk about next!"

Thanks Maddie!

It's great when students go beyond Sunday morning with the opportunity to learn and grow!  We encourage our students to "read along" with our lessons in their daily lives.  We encourage you to do the same with whatever you are learning in your small group or church service.

Psalm 31:14-16

"But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."  My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.  Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love."

Can you say to God today, "You are my God", and find strength, peace, and comfort?  Can the simple act of reminding yourself of who your God is bring trust?

This verse has stuck with me ever since I read it.  I'm reminded constantly who my God is when I face situations and expectations beyond my capacity.  When I'm broken and feeling ineffective, I'm able to lay myself down in His presence.  I'm thankful that God's glory shines on His people.  I hope you will find trust in God today by recalling to yourself who your God is, and say, "You are my God."

Baggage

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

How do you deal with the baggage in your life?  Jesus told His followers that when they love Him, live for Him, and let His Spirit guide them, that they will find peace and rest.  Do you experience His peace and rest?  Does it come and go?

In our Sr. High we are in a series entitled "Baggage" and we're going to be dealing with the pain and struggles in our lives one case at a time.  We talked last week about first letting Christ in to give you complete spiritual healing and each week we'll be discussing different areas of life that bring hurt to our lives and how to allow God's healing in those areas.

We pray that this series will help you experience the rest and peace Jesus made possible for His followers.

Scandia Gospel Presentation

Our biggest outreach event of the year is 4 days away!  What do you want to see God do?  I want to see lives changed for His Kingdom!  If you're a Jr. or Sr. High student at Crossroads read below to find out how to be involved with God using you to help change lives.

We're looking for 20-30 Jr. & Sr. High students to help with our Gospel presentation at the Scandia All-Nighter.  During the Gospel message we'll be presenting "Cardboard Testimonies" as a way to show the Gospel in action.  If you've never seen this check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvDDc5RB6FQ and there's a student one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niMhRvzS5aw.

We're asking you, if you're a Christian, to step up and be a part of this powerful display of God's healing and love.

We're gonna meet this Wednesday Night (Sept. 14th) at Crossroads in the Youth Center to prepare our cardboards, discuss the presentation, and pray.  We'll be meeting at 7pm (just like old times), and we'll bring the necessary items.

If you've been changed by God, then please allow God's work in you to have the chance to change others.  FB, email, or call me soon if you will help.

In His Service,
Tim
